What We Fund

In fiscal 2007, the Fairfield County Community Foundation and our donors awarded $8.3 million in grants to benefit Fairfield County and beyond. Of that total, $1.2 million were competitive grants, awarded from the Foundation's Discretionary and Field of Interest funds to nonprofits across Fairfield County.

As a community foundation, we make competitive grants to Fairfield County nonprofit organizations that strengthen our 23 cities and towns.

To achieve maximum impact, discretionary grantmaking is focused in six critical areas. We award these grants through a competitive process to nonprofits with programs addressing:
  1. Education and Youth Development
  2. Economic Opportunity (including affordable housing, workforce development, and immigrant success)
  3. Health and Human Services
  4. Arts and Culture/Arts Education
  5. The Environment/Environmental Education
  6. Nonprofit Capacity Building
