A nationally recognized arborist during his lifetime, Albert Wadsworth
Meserve was known locally as a prominent businessman and an active
volunteer in civic and charitable activities throughout the Greater
Danbury area. The Meserve Memorial Fund was established in 1978 to
further the work of Mr. Meserve and his wife Helen in the Danbury area.
In 1985, the Fund established the Albert Wadsworth & Helen Meserve
Memorial Scholarship Program for high school seniors and high school
graduates in the Greater Danbury Region planning to enroll or currently
enrolled in a full-time, accredited, college or university leading to a
degree in the environmental sciences or nursing.
Applicants who wish to apply for the Scholarship must be residents of
the following Connecticut towns: Bethel, Brookfield, Bridgewater,
Danbury, New Fairfield, New Milford, Newtown, Redding, Ridgefield, or
Sherman.
Preference will be given to the following priorities:
- High school seniors planning to enroll in a full time accredited
post-secondary school leading to a degree in the environmental sciences*
or nursing.
- High school graduates enrolled or planning to enroll in a full time
accredited post-secondary school leading to a degree in the
environmental sciences* or nursing.
- High school seniors planning to enroll in a full time accredited post-secondary school.
*A
course of environmental studies includes, but is not limited to:
agriculture, animal husbandry, ecological studies, forestry, or marine
sciences.
