Types of Funds & Grants
The Foundation makes competitive grants from discretionary and field of interest funds established by donors who rely on our experience and knowledge of the county to determine the best use of these funds. With competitive funds, we prioritize proposals based on our current grantmaking strategy. The current average competitive grant award is $20,000.
In some cases, the Foundation will only be able to make partial grant awards, requiring the grantee to secure additional funds from other sources.
Grants from donor advised funds are made at the recommendation of the Foundation's fundholders. These grants are reviewed and approved by the Foundation's Board of Directors. Donor advised grants can be awarded from a low of $500 to much larger levels. Donor advised funds are not open to general application.
Often fundholders' interests and community needs are met by combining the resources of competitive and donor advised funds.
