Parameters of Competitive Funding
Due to limited competitive grant funds, the Foundation's Program
Committee generally gives lower priority to requests for ongoing
operating support.
We can fund priority projects for more than one year
(via two-year grants). The multi-year grant option is not appropriate
for all proposals or applicants. In these cases, the grantee may be
eligible to apply for a renewal grant in the project’s second year.
However, grant support for more than one year is contingent on annual
review of progress and available grant funds.
After two consecutive
years of Foundation competitive grant support, a mandatory one-year
hiatus takes effect before an organization can reapply.
The
Foundation doesn't consider grant requests from organizations that have
not fulfilled reporting requirements on past Foundation grants.
The
Foundation's competitive funds are available to benefit Fairfield
County. Requests from nonprofits outside Fairfield County will only be
considered if there is a clear, significant benefit to Fairfield County
residents or organizations and if there are no similar organizations
already in existence in Fairfield County providing a similar service.
Competitive
funds are not used to provide support for religious or political
purposes; deficit financing; annual appeals; fundraising events; open
space purchases; for-profit, parochial, charter, private, or individual
public schools; or nonprofit endowments. Capital requests that are only
directly related to a priority program area may be considered. Grants
are not given to individuals. Requests for funds to re-grant are
generally not considered.
The Foundation's Board of Directors
has approved a non-discrimination policy: the Foundation supports and
will consider grant requests from organizations that provide
employment, volunteer opportunities and services for people regardless
of race, religion, gender, national origin, ancestry, age, medical
condition (except for occupational qualifications), disability, veteran
status, marital status, sexual orientation or any other characteristic
protected by law. Only organizations in compliance with this policy are
eligible to apply to the Foundation for funding.
Foundation grants are made to 501(c)(3) organizations with current I.R.S. documentation.
