The Fairfield County Community Foundation's Center for Nonprofit Excellence (CNE) was created to enhance the effectiveness of Fairfield County nonprofit organizations. We believe that strong nonprofit organizations have the greatest impact in the community.

The CNE offers nonprofit executive directors, senior staff and board members high-quality and affordable professional development workshops taught at Essential, Intermediate and Advanced levels.

Nonprofits can also turn to us for:
  • Resources and referrals for information about nonprofit management
  • Community Fundraising Calendar to post their fundraising events
  • Group discounts to the Foundation Center Online Directory
  • Networking opportunities for nonprofit executive directors
  • Research on the Fairfield County nonprofit sector
  • Endowment fund services
  • Free meeting space in our Norwalk office (as available)

In addition, we award specialty grants for:

  • Technical assistance
  • Technology development
  • Financial management assistance for nonprofits with operating budgets under $1 million
  • Nonprofits that provide local organizations with pro bono legal services, professional development opportunities and management expertise.

Priority for the above specialty grants is given to organizations that have a relationship with Fairfield County Community Foundation.

We also bring together organizations aligned with the Fairfield County Community Foundation's strategic priorities to learn from each other and beyond.

Two examples are:

  • Raising The Bar, which helps Fairfield County nonprofits learn and apply what's working in programs specifically for girls (funded by the Foundation's Fund for Women and Girls)
  • Fairfield County After School Network, for after school alliances in Bridgeport, Danbury, Norwalk and Stamford, where members learn and apply what's working in after school programs (facilitated by the Connecticut After School Network).

The Center for Nonprofit Excellence is generously supported by these visionary friends:

  • Albert and Helen Meserve Memorial Fund
  • Bluenose Fund at FCCF
  • Citizens Bank Foundation
  • Dana, Grace, Olivia and Al Nickel
  • GE Capital
  • JP Morgan Chase Foundation
  • New Alliance Foundation
