How you can help in Haiti
One of the greatest humanitarian disasters in recent memory continues to unfold in Haiti following the 7.0 earthquake which struck on January 12. As many as 200,000 people have died, according to Haitian government estimates.
Humanitarian assistance is now transitioning to providing food, water, housing, medical assistance and other basic needs.
The Haitian government, with assistance from the United Nations, the US and other nations and nongovernmental partners, has begun the challenging process of determining how to rebuild Haiti.
FCCF staff are in touch with local organizations that serve the Haitian community in Fairfield County to determine how we can help victims of this tragedy locally as well as in Haiti.
An organization called InterAction is the largest alliance of U.S.-based international development and humanitarian nongovernmental organizations. On their website, InterAction offers guidelines on the most appropriate ways to help those affected by overseas disasters, and a comprehensive, regularly updated description of competent organizations with staff working on the ground in Haiti.
Links on the Interaction website will take you to each organization and instructions for making contributions.
To date, Foundation donors have provided more than $700,000 to relief efforts. Donors who would like to make gifts
